The Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Mr Kwame Owusu has revealed that spending 1 million Ghana cedis to renovate a 2 bedroom house into a four-bedroom house is value for money after a strict auditing of the facility.

He has also stated that 11 air conditioners as budgeted are even not enough and that they were supposed to be 13 arguing further that the current number fixed in his official house is mediocrity and non-reflective of my status as the maritime authority boss.

Addressing a press conference on Monday MyNewsGh followed he categorically stated that other Director Generals in some departments take more than he is getting but little or no noise is heard about wondering why his has become a major subject in the public court of opinion.

“Some Director Generals have a house allocated to them and even a separate Guest House for entertainment and if this Director General or any other Director General of Ghana Maritime Authority who is superintending over the Maritime Industry in Ghana cannot have a four-bedroom or five-bedroom then say it is mediocrity. Twenty Percent of my salary or any other predecessor who come and take over will be paid. Over a period it is going to pay for itself. Each of time to have an air-condition will be 13 so 11 is not even not enough and by the way we don’t put them all together”, he disclosed.

On the cost of renovation of the structure, he stated

 “One million Ghana cedis that has been used to renovate a two-bedroom house for the Director-General, Tender process went through administration, the bills of quantities was done by prestige…so the Director General could not have influenced the outcome and give it to my friend and say increase the money so that when they do it I can have your so-called ‘chop chop. That building is now made up of four-bedrooms of the structure the main house, a living room, a dining room, kitchen, a family room, a library and a basement.”
